Today, 14 July, is la Fête Nationale or Bastille Day in France, and, thus, a perfect time celebrate French culture. I thought I would do something different and have decided to pay tribute to the “French chanson” or popular French songs, and apart from those singers presented below, other notable “usual suspects” in this category are Yves Montand, Charles Aznavour, Serge Gainsbourg, Joe Dassin and Marc Lavoine.
I enjoyed listening to all of these, but La Mer will always be my favorite.

Moi je préfère La Vie en Rose, et je me souviens aussi le film triste avec Marion Cotillard comme Piaf.

Very nice but a bit old fashioned. Always interesting to see what foreigners pick.
You do know that French singers have written songs since 1970, right? 🙂

Excuse me? That was the exact point of this post – to pay tribute to classic songs of the PAST.
