La Fête Nationale Française: Tribute to French Chanson

A version of La Marseillaise (the national anthem of France) by Georges Thill

Today, 14 July, is la Fête Nationale or Bastille Day in France, and, thus, a perfect time celebrate French culture. I thought I would do something different and have decided to pay tribute to the “French chanson” or popular French songs, and apart from those singers presented below, other notable “usual suspects” in this category are Yves Montand, Charles Aznavour, Serge Gainsbourg, Joe Dassin and Marc Lavoine.

Classics🎵:

Édith Piaf (1915-1963) – La Vie en rose
Charles Trenet (1913-2001) – La Mer

For Incurable Romantics💗:

Pierre Bachelet (1944-2005) – Elle est d’ailleurs
Gérard Lenorman (1944- ) – Michèle
C. Jérôme (1946-2000) – Et tu danses avec lui

  1. Very nice but a bit old fashioned. Always interesting to see what foreigners pick.
You do know that French singers have written songs since 1970, right? 🙂
