Recent Trip to Paris: 3 Museums

I have recently returned from my trip to Paris, and thought I would talk about the three museums I managed to fit into my itinerary.

MusΓ©e de l’ArmΓ©e

MusΓ©e du quai Branly

  1. My recollection of the Musee de l’Armee was the extensive Napoleonic Wars rooms, with dioramas of the battles, paintings of the various famous generals, and it filled so many rooms it was almost absurd.

Glad you visited Les Jardins de Luxembourg, which I always try to visit, they are beautiful and serene and the flowers are always amazing. You might like Remy de Gourmont’s symbolist book from around 1926 I think: β€œA Night in the Luxembourg,” β€” I can’t seem to copy the link to my review but I was the first to review it on Goodreads eight years ago.

    1. Yes, I didn’t expect the museum to be so huge. Every time I thought this was it, there was another room or another floor continuing the same theme. Thanks, I will certainly check out A Night in the Luxembourg. The synopsis is intriguing.

  2. Fantastic!! Another bountiful expedition to Paris. It’s so perfect how you use literature to augment your travel experience and vice versa… According to MBTI personality theory that is a well-oiled circuit between cognitive functions: Dominant Introversion and Auxillary ExtravertedπŸ€“ Anyhoo, love the vibes of The Gallery of Evolution with all the rain sounds and natural ambience. And that Tasmanian Tiger!πŸ…

  3. A very nice selection I totally approve. The Jardin des Plantes and the museum were favourite places to visit when we lived in Paris and our daughters were little.

MusΓ©e de l’ArmΓ©e is quite probably unique. I went last year. Revisited WWI and WWII. Moving when one thinks of today’s times. (We never learn)

And Branly… You and I have already commented on that. I liked the collections much better when they were at MusΓ©e de l’homme (Of which I was a patron for many years) and la Porte DorΓ¨e. More magic.

    Merci for this post.

      1. Lots of cultural options. I don’t like the new MusΓ©e de l’Homme for the same reasons. All its valuable collections have been moved to Branly. The current collections are interesting but a bit too ‘decolonial’ for my taste. But that’s me. I would recommend Le musΓ©e de la vie Romantique. Small but a different perspective. Centered on Georges Sand. And above all: Gustave Moreau. Mind-blowing. (To me again, of course.) Be good.
