  1. Having got some Kafka under my belt and finding his work both tantalising and stimulating, Thomas Bernhard sounds an author it might be worth my while seeking out. This theme of obsession is one we find throughout literature but especially in these days, what with conspiracy theories and political cults and AI, obsession has the potential to become an all-consuming dangerous malaise. Great review, Diana, thanks.

    1. Thanks. If you liked Kafka, you will enjoy Bernhard. I find his fiction falls into two camps: existential and dread-inducing (The Lime Works, Correction, Concrete) and much wittier, lighter novels, but with the same acerbic cynicism, looking at art or society (Woodcutters, Old Masters). I prefer the former, but you may as well like the latter just as much.
