  1. What a stunning painting! I didn’t know about Schinkel before, so I’m glad I discovered a new artist. This painting is really gorgeous and, as you say, it is a piece to get lost in. I like how both worlds (human and nature) make the other one more magical in this painting: without the castle, it would have been a beautiful nature scene, and without the nature surrounding it, a gorgeous intricate painting of a building, but the two coexisting make the whole truly magical. Also, I could definitely see myself living in that castle ahah!

    1. I am glad you liked it! You put it so well about the two worlds of humans and nature co-existing. Schinkel is primarily known as an architect, so it is even more interesting to trace his vision in this painting as you can definitely sense his talent for proportion and for imagining architectural wonders. I also notice perfectionism. Apparently, he was so taken by Caspar David Friedrich’s paintings, he then thought he could never match such mastery, and switched to architecture. Interesting.
