  1. Did you travel to Poland to see these? They seem like the kind of art that would be much more impressive in person. I see a lot of Dali in them, even though I can’t think of comparable painting.

  2. I much prefer the word ‘melancholia’ to the more modern, clinical word ‘depression’. Somehow the first seems to offer some kind of spiritual possibility of a way out whereas the second reminds me of being squashed beneath something. Not inappropriate to the feeling perhaps but lacking in any recognition of fundamental humanity. Thank you for this fascinating post Diana and I hope that you are well.
