I recall I had so much fun participating in the meme My Life in Books in 2019 (see my post here) that I decided to have a go at it this year, too. The original creator of this meme is probably The Roof Beam Reader and the rule is that you must complete the sentences below using only the titles of the books you read in 2021. This year, I was largely inspired to participate by onemore.org (There’s Always Room For One More) and her post My Life in Books: 2021 Edition. I am not tagging specific bloggers and it is not too late to participate for everyone. So, here are my answers (obviously, not meant to be taken seriously):
In high school I was Eleven Kinds of Loneliness (Richard Yates)
People might be surprised by The Genius of Birds (Jennifer Ackerman)
I will never be Beethoven (Laura Tunbridge)
My fantasy job is The Miner (Natsume Sōseki)
At the end of a long day I need The Yellow Sofa (José Maria Eça de Queirós)
I hate Fires on the Plain (Shōhei Ōoka)
I wish I had The Glass Menagerie (Tennessee Williams)
My family reunions are The Duel (Anton Chekhov) (it’s a progress, in 2019 it was The Butchering Art (Lindsey Fitzharris))
At a party you’d find me with The Poisoned Chocolates Case (Anthony Berkeley) (again, it’s a progress, I am growing more humane at parties – in 2019, you were finding me with Sulphuric Acid (Amélie Nothomb)) 🙂
I’ve never been to The Tartar Steppe (Dino Buzzati)
A happy day includes The Gustav Sonata (Rose Tremain)
Motto I live by Still Me (Christopher Reeve)
On my bucket list is Making Movies (Sidney Lumet)
In my next life, I want to have The Bilingual Brain (Albert Costa)
How amusing! 😂♥️

This was a lot of fun! I’m glad you’ve progressed from sulphuric acid to poisoned chocolates at parties. (I think.)

That looks fantastic. I would love to read “The Bilingual Brain”, never heard of it. But I raised two bilingual sons and probably could call myself one, as well. LOL
I did a similar challenge a couple of years ago and loved it, might do yours, as well. Love it.
Look here.

Thanks, I will check out your post! I did find things to criticise in The Bilingual Brain :), but it was eye-opening nonetheless.

Thanks, Diana. I just saw your post and it sounds frustrating, maybe it is not what I thought it might be. You are right, we know that it works somehow but from the title, you would think, he explains how and why.

I’m snickering about your family reunions being The Duel. It seems even more funny after a television news item this morning about Princes Charles and Andrew fighting over a toilet and the queen having to sort them out.

Happy to ping this meme back on your radar – it’s always fun (and I’m glad things are making progress in family and party matters 😉)
