I would like to wish all my followers a very Happy Halloween! 🎃 and what Halloween is without a scary ghost story? Der Erlkönig (The Erl-King) is a 1782 spooky poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, which was set to music by Franz Schubert in 1815. The story has roots in a Scandinavian folktale, and below is its soundtrack taken from “Schubert Year by Year” (Stone Records), with the film created by Jeremy Hamway-Bidgood.

I really enjoyed watching the video. I’ve never seen anything like it.

This is a favorite piece of mine! We learned about it in music appreciation class 🙂

Haunting and beautiful Halloween opera which emotes more in a few minutes than many modern films do over a couple hours (or more). Thanks so much for sharing 🙂
